What is Montessori?
The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.
It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive.
The mission of Nos Fortalesa Montessori, is to guide the intellectual and character development of each child along a path towards his or her full and unknown potential. We strive to cultivate compassion and respect, independence and belonging, freedom and self-discipline, in academic and social environments that are designed for elementary children and honor the complementary needs of the individual and the group.
In August of 2014, the first Montessori elementary classroom started with 13 students, with one lead teacher and 1 part-time assistant. Today, Nos Fortalesa Montessori Aruba, has 3 classrooms (3 groups), with a total of 60 students ranging from ages 3-12 with 3 certified teachers and 2 classroom assistants and a few volunteers.
Nos Fortalesa Montessori is a recognized school by the International Montessori Society, and a member of the International Montessori Council.
